Small quarto (245 x 185 mm), original printed green wrappers with old paper reinforcement along spine,   pp 38, with 17 full-page b/w photographic plates of ethnographic artefacts (a stone “god” from Darnley Island, Torres Strait; Papuan Gulf masks and headdresses; Queensland bullroarers) which accompany essays by Hamlyn-Harris (Director of the Museum), including ‘Ethnographical notes of Torres Strait’, ‘Some Papuan ceremonial appurtenances’, and ‘Sacred sticks or bull-roarers’; a good copy; from the Papuan Collection of Charles Fletcher (Melbourne), his bookplate to the front free-endpaper.

A valuable pictorial record of an astonishing array of spectacular Papuan Gulf dance masks, as well as Queensland bullroarers and tjuringas.
