Two gelatin silver print photographs taken with the same panoramic camera, in 90 x 250 mm format; laid down on original textured card mounts with photographer’s signature in pencil at lower right ‘A. E. Jarratt’; both prints and both mounts are in virtually pristine condition.

Lorne resident A. E. Jarratt (1886-1962) was for many years the proprietor of the town’s souvenir shop, and he also ran the Lorne Picture Theatre. Jarratt was also was a keen amateur photographer who extensively documented the picturesque Lorne district. In 1921 his photographic talents were recognised when the Fine Art Society in Melbourne staged an exhibition of his photographs, a copy of the catalogue for which is held in the SLV (Exhibition of photographs from Lorne and Mt. Buffalo by A.E. Jarratt : October 9th to 31st, 1921, held at the Fine Art Society’s Galleries, 100 Exhibition Street, Melbourne).
