[WESTERN DISTRICT] Account for the hire of horses and traps from William O’Brien, Warrnambool, to Dr. William Boyd. January 1866 – March 1868.
Manuscript account, single octavo sheet (180 x 112 mm) written in ink on both sides, headed ‘Warrnambool, March 30th / 68, Dr. Boyd, Dr. to W. O’Brien’, itemising a number of transactions involving the hire of horses and/or traps by Dr. William Boyd from merchant William O’Brien, made between 3 January 1866 and 30th March 1868; old folds, toning at top edges of both sides, otherwise clean and legible.
‘William O’Brien came to Warrnambool from Port Fairy and became the licensee of the Hibernian Hotel … and later built the Western Hotel in Timor Street. O’Brien was elected to the Warrnambool City Council….’ (Warrnambool & District Historical Society)
Dr. William Boyd, also of Warnambool, served in Crimean War alongside Florence Nightingale.
