Ten volumes (complete), octavo (200 x 130 mm), uniform contemporary bindings of vellum over boards, spines with titles and volume numbers in early manuscript; VI-[1]-LXX-592 pp., 4 pl. + [5]-554-[86] pp., 15 pl. + [12]-XIV-[6]-494 pp., 1 pl. + [4]-563 pp., 5 pl. + [30]-486 pp. + [4]-558 pp + [14]-651 pp., + [4]-708 pp., + [2]-XXVI-[2]-622 pp., + [4]-564 pp.; the first two volumes have engraved frontispieces, all title pages in red and black, decorative head- and tailpieces, latter volumes with historiated initials; text in French; all bindings firm and in fine condition, contents clean and fresh throughout.
A superb set of the octavo editions of Saurin’s monumental Bible commentary with engraved illustrations by B. Picart, Jonkman, Wandelaar, Pool and Otten. Although not as lavishly illustrated as the better known six-volume folio edition (La Haye : Pierre de Hondt, 1728-1739), the octavo editions are rarely found as a complete ten-volume set.
