Arts critic, writer and filmmaker Nadine Amadio (1929-2009) first met Blackman at Heide when she was 15, and they remained lifelong friends. This portrait was taken in Sydney by celebrated photographer Robert Walker (1922-2007) while Amadio was working on her biography of the artist, Charles Blackman: The Lost Domain (1980); in 1982 she would also publish Paris Dreaming, a monograph on Blackman’s Paris-inspired works.
