Second ‘enlarged and revised’ Dutch edition of this collection of ‘beautiful stories’ for ‘the useful and educational entertainment’ of ‘the dear youth’, by German educational writer by Joachim Heinrich Campe (1746-1818). The first Dutch edition was published in Amsterdam in 1804.
Campe is often referred to as the father of the German children’s book. His writings, often re-tellings of accounts of exploration and adventure, embodied the pedagogical ideas of the Enlightenment (particularly those of Rousseau) and were characterised by a strong moralistic tone.
