ADSHEAD, Soosie
[FEMINISM; MELBOURNE] “They said it couldn’t happen”
$250.00 AUD
Large screen print poster designed by Soosie Adshead (signed in the image lower right), 600 x 430 mm; unmounted, original vertical and horizontal folds, in fine original condition (even though stored for over 40 years!).
This striking poster was produced in conjunction with a landmark concert of women’s music – a joint production of LaTrobe Union Activities and RMIT Union-SRC Activities that was staged at Storey Hall, RMIT, Melbourne on Friday 13 July 1979. The principal organisers of the event were Soosie Adshead, Dianne Dunscombe and Laurel Frank, assisted by Virginia Fraser, Jenny Mather, Margot Nash, Eve Stocker, Hellen Sky, Margaret Hender and many others. The lineup of artists included Margret Roadknight, Yvette Isaacs, Ladies Revolutionary Brass, Canary Reynolds, Natasha, Elizabeth Drake, Jan Cornall, Razzamatazz, and Jane Clifton; the concert was accompanied by a screening of a number of short films by feminist filmmakers including Margot Nash and Robin Laurie, Megan McMurchy, and Johanna Demetrakas.
Provenance: Estate of Virginia Fraser (1947-2021), feminist, artist, writer, editor and curator.
