A group of five original documents that chart the history of Henry George Baker as a Freemason in Hong Kong. Baker arrived in Hong Kong from Bristol in 1882 and worked in the Hong Kong Police Force until 1913, when he retired at the age of 52 with the rank of Chief Inspector. 

I. Grand Lodge of Mark Masters of England and Wales and the Colonies and possessions of the British Crown. (His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, Grand Master). Certificate recording the advancement of Henry George Baker of the United Lodge No. 419, Hong Kong, to the degree of Mark Master, on 10 December 1892, issued in London on 22 February 1893. Folio (370 x 300 mm); printed in black on parchment, with ms. entries in black ink, Lodge’s embossed seal in red lower left; minor insect damage at lower edges, otherwise very good condition.

II.  Order of Royal Arch Masons of England, District Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Hongkong & South China. (Catchick Paul Chater, Grand Superintendent for Hongkong and China). Certificate recording the appointment of Henry George Baker of the United Chapter, Lodge No. 1341, to the Office of District Grand Deputy Director of Ceremonies, issued at Victoria, Hong Kong on 28 April 1905. Large folio (460 x 310 mm); printed in blue and red, with ms. entries in black ink, Chapter’s stamp seal at lower margin; upper corner with light stain, otherwise fine condition

III.  District Grand Lodge of Hongkong & South China. (Catchick Paul Chater, District Grand Master). Certificate recording the appointment of Henry George Baker of the United Service, Lodge No. 1341, to the Office of District Grand Standard Bearer, dated 29 December 1905. Large folio (460 x 310 mm); printed in blue and red, with ms. entries in black ink, Lodge’s stamp seal lower left; faint original folds, upper corner with crease and light stain, otherwise fine condition.

IV. Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Scotland. (T. G. Winning, Grand Secretary). Certificate recording the elevation of Henry George Baker to the sublime degree of Master Mason in the Eastern Scotia Lodge, No. 923, Kowloon, issued in Edinburgh on 15 August 1935. Folio (400 x 300 mm), printed in black on thick paper with ms. entries in blue ink, Lodge’s stamp seal in green at lower margin; minor insect damage at edges, otherwise very good condition.

V. Supreme Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Scotland. Excellent Master Lodge. (George Howell, Grand Scribe). Certificate recording the advancement of Henry George Baker of the Naval and Military Chapter, No. 302, to the degree of Excellent Master Mason, issued in Edinburgh on 13 February 1939. Folio (420 x 300 mm), printed in black on thick paper with ms. entries in black ink, Lodge’s embossed seal in red at lower left; minor insect damage at lower left edge, otherwise very good condition.
