Group of 120 gelatin silver print photographs in snapshot format, approx. 115 x 67 mm; the majority taken by an unidentified US serviceman using a personal Kodak camera, the remainder commercial photos obtained by him at the time; a small number with handwritten captions verso; a few images duplicated; in uniformly good condition, with a bundle of celluloid negatives included.

Most of the images in this substantial archive were taken by a US sailor stationed in Hawaii during the last months and aftermath of WW2, and include many shots of the VJ Day parade and celebrations; US sailors in R&R mode; street and beach scenes; volcanic landscapes; hula dancers, etc. The balance comprises what are evidently commercial photos acquired at the time, that include views of landmarks, ethnographic subjects etc.
