A readable and detailed account of the Indian Mutiny by Irish correspondent for The Times William Howard Russell, considered to have been one of the first modern war correspondents. Russell is critical of the British sense of superiority over the Indian population and presents accounts of the sieges at Lucknow and Cawnpore.
