Albumen print photograph, carte de visite format, 107 x 62 mm; verso with imprint of ‘Miller’s Garibaldi Portrait Rooms, 98 1/2 Swanston St. (between Gt. & Lt. Bourke Sts., Melbourne’; a superb print in fine condition, as is the mount.

A rare carte de visite by Melbourne photographer (and tobacconist) Thomas Miller. We can find no mention of his ‘Garibaldi Portrait Rooms’ in newspaper notices of the period, and there can surely be only very few surviving examples of his cartes with this particular imprint. This is the only one we have ever sighted.
