Small octavo (185 x 110 mm), original blind-blocked green cloth, te upper board with gilt-stamped cartouche with title ‘Conversations on conchology’, spine sunned; all edges gilt; front free-endpaper with an early gift inscription dated 1851 and a later one dated 1943; pp [vii], 112, illustrated with [10] fine copper-engraved plates with hand colouring; front hinge cracked but holding well, internally clean, a very good example.
An introduction to conchology in the form of a dialogue between a father and his children, first published in 1826. It contains references to shells of the Pacific region, including the ‘foot long’ haliotis from New Holland.
