Albumen print photograph, carte de visite format, 104 x 64 mm; verso with the elaborate back mark of ‘Townsend Duryea, Artist Photographer. By Appointment. 66 & 68 King William Street, Adelaide’, surrounded by the crests of the Duke of Edinburgh, Sir James Fergusson, Sir Dominick Daly, Sir R. G. MacDonnell, and Anthony Musgrave; both the albumen print and mount are in excellent condition.

A fine portrait by American-born photographer Townsend Duryea. An approximate date of 1873 is suggested by the fact that Musgrave was not appointed Governor until March that year, and arrived in Adelaide in June.
