Ten volumes, octavo (235 x 175 mm), bound by Zaehnsdorf in handsome uniform half crimson crushed morocco over marbled papered boards ruled in gilt, spines with raised bands decorated and lettered in gilt; top edges gilt, fore- and bottom edges uncut; marbled pastedowns and endpapers; titles in red and black, 24 plates, one folding map, three folding genealogical charts; pastedowns with later ex libris labels of Nathaniel Cushing Nash and L. W. Jordan Jr.; clean and fresh throughout, a very fine set.
An exceptional set of the large paper issue of the first Wheatley edition, which for a century would remain the most comprehensive and faithful edition of Pepys’s Diary. It includes a volume of Pepysiana, as well as an index volume.
