Melbourne : Edward A. Vidler, 1918. Folio, gilt-lettered papered boards (a little marked), 8 folded sheets with six original etchings, each signed in pencil, tipped in, with three of the six captioned tissue guards, light foxing and offsetting, title page a little marked.

Limited to 55 numbered copies, signed by John Shirlow, with no further printings of the plates. Shirlow produced a further three folios of etchings, ‘Five etchings’ (1904) limited to 25 copies, ‘Four etchings’ (1921) limited to 57 copies, The Melbourne Set (1920) limited to 80 copies and the rarer ‘The Sydney Set’ (1918) limited to 55 copies. Shirlow writes in his Foreword ‘These etchings have been made during my two very pleasant visits to Sydney in 1917 – 1918. They were done primarily for my own pleasure, and if they should happen to have interest for those who like this form of work then it will be, to me, an added satisfaction. Whatever opinions may be expressed of these plates, I know that the doing of them afforded me a a great deal of happiness, as being some slight record of a very beautiful city’.
Complete and unbroken examples of any of Shirlow’s folios are rare.
