Robert Clinch is regarded as one of Australia’s finest realist artists. Clinch has never been prolific, and his oils and prints are keenly sought after. Clinch is an international artist, unique in his realist portrayel of the urban landscape.
‘In 2004 I finally acted upon a long-held desire to try my hand at some lithography. I probably should have known that I would end up applying the same fastidiousness to these works as I do with all my paintings. However, the results have been so satisfying, that lithography is now an integral part of my creative output. I work on aluminium plates which I cancel (scratch across) upon completion of the editions. I have intentionally kept these editions to a modest, and therefore exclusive, number. The democracy of having some works of art visible and affordable to a new and broader audience has been a large part of their appeal. The other is, simply that I paint too slowly, and I love drawing!’ – the artist.
