Harold Byrne : Etched book-plates

Quarto, stitch-bound wrappers with etched paper label to upper wrapper, etched limitation statement tipped-in ‘This edition is limited to 25 signed copies of which this is No. [17 – Harold Byrne, inscribed in ink], six tipped in etched bookplates for R. A. Muller, Frank E. Lane, Patricia Conaghan, Janet Ashton, Colin B. Berckelman, F. C. V. Lane, interleaved with glassine guards, each signed in pencil by the artist, with an etched colophon ‘Compiled, bound, hand printed by the artist at the studio 38a Pitt St. Sydney, Australia, 1936’.

A very rare book on Australian bookplates, with six signed original etched bookplates. 

Harold Byrne self-published two books on bookplates in 1936, both with the same title, and both limited to 25 copies. The more commonly found publication includes an introduction by John Lane Mullins and contains nine unsigned bookplates for John Lane Mullins; Eileen Joyce; Beryl, Zara &​ Cherry Rossbotham; Eric McDonald; Rosemond P. A. Lane; Ray G. Garden; Uther Barker; John P. Ferris, and Harold J. Howes.
