Very scarce catalogue of the landmark sale of the estate of wealthy Australian pastoralist and collector A.B. Triggs (1868-1936), of Yass, N.S.W. The Triggs Collection contained a staggering array of over 70 Old Master drawings, including original works by Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Titian, Murillo, Velasquez, Dürer, Rembrandt, Rubens, van Dyck, Watteau, Doré, Millet, Hogarth, Gainsborough and Turner; Mediaeval European embroideries; major numismatic items; and important historical documents and manuscripts, with letters by the explorers Cook and Leichhardt, Charles Darwin, Oliver Cromwell, Lord Horatio Nelson, English monarchs, and many famous musicians, composers, writers and artists. An absolutely fascinating catalogue: it's safe to say that it would be virtually impossible for a private Australian collector to assemble such a collection either today, or at any time in the future.
