Slightly abridged Swedish translation (by Carl Fr. Landell) of Forster’s 1793 German version of the voyage account of Surville, the French East India Company captain who sailed in search of Davis Land, a fabled island in the South Pacific, in 1769-70. Towards the end of 1769 the ships of Surville and Cook, on his first voyage, narrowly missed an encounter in New Zealand waters.
