Albumen print photograph, 185 x 240 mm, laid down recto of a nineteenth-century album leaf of thick card, the mount inscribed in pencil by the album’s compiler ‘Bennion’s yacht “Hinemoa”‘; no photographer’s imprint;  a strong print in good condition with some very light scattered foxing; verso with an inferior example of the same print, heavily foxed.

In the 1880s, Frederick Bennion was Secretary of the Perth Yacht Club. His swift ocean-going yacht “Hinemoa” was victorious in numerous popular match races off Perth and Fremantle in the second half of that decade.

We can trace no photographs of “Hinemoa” on Trove.
