Octavo (220 x 150 mm), publisher’s buff-coloured wrappers with titles and illustration in blue to upper wrapper, lower wrapper with publisher’s advertisement (wrappers with light staining and foxing, some paper loss at foot of spine); pp. 128, with five in-text illustrations by Walter Paget; printed on cheap paper which has toned, scattered foxing, but mostly confined to the first half of the text, otherwise internally good.

A scarce example of Cassell’s sixpenny edition of Rider Haggard’s classic adventure story, the first of the Allan Quartermain novels.
