Gelatin silver print photograph, 112 x 152 mm, laid down on its original grey card mount, 128 x 188 mm; verso inscribed in a slightly later hand ‘Mount Korong’; fine condition.

Despite the fact that it was probably taken by an amateur photographer, this is a fabulous outdoor photograph: the more you look, the more you discover! Amongst the huge boulders strewn across the landscape below the summit of Mount Korong – a prominent landmark roughly midway between Inglewood and Wedderburn – at least 25 men, women and children dot the rugged terrain like ants. They are all wearing their “Sunday best”. Our guess is that they were from several local families enjoying an Easter holiday picnic together at this picturesque site, which today is protected as part of the Mount Korong Nature Conservation Reserve.
