This group portrait of the staff of Lanes Motors was taken outside the firm’s head office in Exhibition Street in the winter of 1924. The firm, whose factory was in Ingles Street, Fishermans Bend (South Melbourne), was founded by brothers Harry  and Robert Lane, and it became one of Melbourne’s most famous and long-running car dealerships, still operating today as a Mercedes-Benz dealership in South Melbourne.
