Paris : Annales maritimes et coloniales. II.e partie. Année 1824. – Juin. Octavo, bound in contemporary marbled wrappers, pp [2], 457-541, with an engraved diagram of a furnace ventilator (p.540); light browning to some of the leaves, but a very good copy. Text in French.

An important treatise on the causes of, and preventive measures for, maritime sicknesses. Keraudren was a French naval officer, surgeon and Inspecteur général du service de santé de la marine between 1813 and 1845. The first edition of this work was published in 1817, and a separately published second edition also appeared in 1824, making this variant, published as a bulletin of the Annales maritimes et coloniales, the third known version. Specific references are made by Keraudren to observations made by numerous navigators, including Cook (p.12 / p.30: his use of fire to purify the air below decks; p.16: his placement of a kitchen in steerage, to maintain dryness), and Labillardière (p.102; the possible benefits of chewing betel for intestinal health).

Not in Beddie.

While Trove locates no copies of this version, it does find two copies of the separately published 1824 edition (SLNSW; SLV). No copy of the 1817 edition is recorded in Australian collections. The periodical Annales maritimes et coloniales appears to held in Monash University Library and State Library of Victoria.
