Melbourne : McCarron, Bird & Co., 1902. Folio, illustrated papered boards with magnificent illustration of the Waratah (scattered foxing, lower board silverfished, a little bowed), patterned endpapers, 40 illustrations after Nuttall pencil drawings illustrating important figures of the Federation period. Subjects include Earl Hopetoun, Governor-General; Sir Edmund Barton, Prime Minister, and various Premiers, Attorneys-General, Government Ministers, Parliamentarians, as well as artistic figures such as John Longstaff, painter and Marshall-Hall, Director of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music.

A rare book of portraits by Nuttall, sketched as preparatory studies for his Magnus opus oil painting The Opening, Commonwealth Parliament, which featured 344 identifiable faces within the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne in 1901.
