[ROLLING STONES CONTACT SHEET] Charlie Watts and Mick Taylor interviewed by Felix Dennis for London Oz magazine, 1971.
$1,500.00 AUD
Gelatin silver print, 250 x 200 mm (sheet); inscribed on the verso in blue ballpoint by Oz magazine editor Felix Dennis: ‘F.D. interviews Charlie Watts & Mick Taylor, other members of Rolling Stones, for Oz. 1971?‘; in very good condition.
The interview at which these photographs were taken (presumably by an Oz staff photographer – perhaps Jim Anderson? – since Felix Dennis himself appears in some of the shots) was conducted around the time of the release of the Stones’ album Sticky Fingers on 23 April 1971. This unique contact sheet is accompanied by the sleeve insert from the original UK pressing of Sticky Fingers, on which Felix Dennis has annotated the name ‘Charlie Watts’ above Charlie in the group photo, apparently in order to identify him; perhaps Dennis was only familiar with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards? This might well have been the case, considering that he describes Charlie and Mick Taylor simply as ‘other members’ of the band on the back of the contact sheet!
Provenance: Felix Dennis (1947-2014), editor of London Oz, publisher and later media tycoon.
