Gelatin silver print photograph, postcard format 132 x 83 mm, verso with imprint of ‘Frank A. McNeill Studios, Adelaide & Port’, and a fully contemporary inscription in ink identifying the sitter as ‘Constance May Richmond, age 13 years / 1915’; superb condition.

Quite simply one of the finest Australian portraits of this period that we have handled (or seen!).

The ethereally beautiful Constance May Richmond (1902-1963) was the only daughter of Alexander Richmond and Catherine Mabel Lenthall, both of whom were Adelaide-born. Constance was born in Parkside and seems to have remained in Adelaide her entire life. In 1925 she married James Cyril Bond (1891-1977) – not many women can say they married 007! Their daughter, Margaret Jean, was born in the Unley Private Hospital in 1928.
