$350.00 AUD
London : John Murray, 1882. First edition. Seventh thousand (corrected). Octavo, publisher’s blind blocked dark green cloth (edges rubbed, small tears to head and foot of spine), spine lettered in gilt; endpapers rubbed, pp. [ii], viii, 328, [2] (adv.); 15 text illustrations, index; original cloth; uncut; light foxing to preliminaries (inscription on title-page & long inscription on first blank); a good copy; scarce.
Darwin’s last work, in which he reverts to his earlier geological interests while still retaining the theme common throughout his later work: gradual change over long periods can lead to large and surprising consequences. It was very successful, selling faster than Origin of species (1859).
